About Us - The AI Board Game Assistant
The Chat Quest is an AI-powered assistant that helps board game enthusiasts discover their perfect next game. Just describe what you're looking for, and the AI will find matching games from a database of over 60,000 titles.
The Story
Finding new board games has always been a challenge. Every time I wanted to discover something new, I had to reach out to my circle of gaming friends. And of course, to give me a good recommendation, they would ask the classic questions: "How many players?", "Light or heavy?", "What theme or mechanics?"
That's when the idea clicked. Back in 2018, during the rise of conversational AI agents like Google Dialogflow, I thought: what if finding your next board game was as easy as having that conversation with a knowledgeable friend?
The first version was built with Alba Durana's beautiful graphic design, running on CloudRun with a NextJS frontend and NestJS backend. It was ambitious, it was exciting... and then life happened.
A marriage, two kids, and countless life experiences later...
Fast forward to 2025-2026, the wave of "vibe coding" and modern AI tools reignited the spark. The project was reborn—keeping Alba's original visual identity but completely rebuilt on a modern stack powered by Cloudflare and their generous infrastructure tiers.
The Chat Quest will never replace your circle of expert friends or your favorite local game store. But it can help you make that first filter, discover options you hadn't considered, and arrive at those conversations with 2-3 clear alternatives in mind.
Official launch: January 2026
The Tech Stack
The Chat Quest runs entirely on Cloudflare's developer platform, taking advantage of their robust and scalable infrastructure:
- Cloudflare Workers — Serverless compute for the SvelteKit application
- Workers AI — Natural language understanding and intent detection
- D1 Database — SQLite-based storage for games, users, and conversations
- Vectorize — Vector database for semantic game search
- KV Storage — Rate limiting and session management
Game data is sourced from BoardGameGeek, the most comprehensive board game database in the world.
Recognition
Alba Durana — Visual Identity
Alba created The Chat Quest's entire visual identity back in 2018: the logo, the color palette, and the warm, inviting design language that still defines the experience today. Her work gave this project a soul.
Laura — Support and Testing
The person who endures the late-night coding sessions, tests features with honest feedback, and provides the moral support that keeps this project moving forward. Every side project needs someone like her.
Friends and Fellow Gamers
The countless friends who have shaped this idea over the years with their feedback, suggestions, and shared enthusiasm for board games. Their input has been invaluable.
Special Thanks
I owe a huge debt of gratitude to BoardGameGeek for being an incredible community and the most comprehensive source of board game data in the world. Without their contribution to the hobby, The Chat Quest simply wouldn't exist.
